FIS announced that American Express has selected FIS’ InstantFunds Mobile technology to provide mobile-driven remote check capture for Bluebird accounts.

“Consumers are increasingly mobile and tech-savvy and constantly seek convenience. They want the option to perform any financial or purchasing transaction with a mobile phone,” explained Gary Norcross, president and chief operating officer, FIS. “We recognized the opportunity to offer a mobile solution that brings more secure, self-service capabilities to consumers and we’re excited that American Express has teamed with FIS to support its innovative Bluebird offering.”

FIS InstantFunds Mobile enables consumers to use their smartphones to scan a check and add funds into their account, thus limiting fraud by leveraging FIS’ analytics and payment guaranty technologies.

Visa and Chexar Networks announced today the launch of a network platform that will enable Visa prepaid users to deposit paper checks to their reloadable Visa prepaid card using their mobile device, by simply snapping a photo of a paper check.

“Consumers are choosing reloadable prepaid cards at an increasing rate, and for many of the same reasons that consumers embrace other electronic payment options — security, convenience and reliability,” said Hyung Choi, head of U.S. Prepaid, Visa Inc. “Mobile technology and other payment innovations are enabling us to enhance Visa’s prepaid experience and bring all the conveniences of traditional banking options to consumers who choose to use prepaid.”

mFoundry announced it has launched mDeposit Express, a "standalone mobile deposit capture solution that banks and credit unions can use to provide customers with an immediate mobile deposit solution, regardless of their current mobile banking platform."

In related mobile banking news, ClairMail announced an impressive 234% year-over-year revenue increase for 2010, along with other assorted growth statistics.

PayPal is blogging that $100,000 worth of checks have been processed in the first 36 hours by the "Add Money from Checks" capability inside the new PayPal mobile app. In related news, BankServe has announced that its mobile capture technology behind the service.

Chase quietly introduced a new version of its mobile banking app last week that supports remote deposit capture from the iPhone. Jim Bruene over at NetBanker has a write up on how it works, including some nice screen shots. The app upgrade also included mobile access to Chase's P2P payment service.

In an article titled "USAA to launch deposit app", L.A. Lorek writes for MySanAntonio.com about USAA's plans to release a new iPhone application that will allow users to take photos of the front and back of a check and deposit it electronically directly from their iPhone.

Fiserv has announced the results of recent market research that quantified the interest among banks and credit unions for mobile deposit capture and gauged their views on potential customer acceptance.
