In the short-term, the killer app for mFoundry will be frequent-use, closed-loop stored value cards – delivered not by NFC but by the use of 2D bar codes. The Starbucks test announced last week is the first of what Sievers claims will be multiple announcements coming from mFoundry in the near future.

The mFoundry platform will enable mobile banking and payments services for all of Zions’ retail banking subsidiaries including Amegy Bank of Texas, California Bank & Trust, National Bank of Arizona, Nevada State Bank, The Commerce Bank of Oregon, The Commerce Bank of Washington, Vectra Bank Colorado and Zions First National Bank (Utah and Idaho), as well as Zions Direct (nationwide Web direct banking). mFoundry has announced that CO-OP Financial Services has selected mFoundry’s financial services platform to deliver mobile banking offerings to credit unions. Sprint has announced that its wireless customers with BB&T, Citibank, IBC Bank and PNC Bank accounts can now access their bank accounts and send payments to friends and family using PayPal from most Web-enabled Sprint phones with the launch of Sprint's MyMoneyManager. Fidelity National Information Services has announced the launch of a new two-way mobile banking and bill pay product suite, FIS Mobile Banking and Bill Pay. The offering supports all three modes of mobile banking -- SMS/text, mobile web and downloadable application solutions, allowing financial institutions to target different segments of their client-base with the most appropriate mobile banking solution. FIS teamed with ClairMail and mFoundry to provide the new services. READ MORE

mFoundry and Affinity Mobile have announced an alliance to pursue the expansion of mobile wallet services to prepaid and underbanked markets worldwide. 'Affinity Mobile’s MADE solution will be paired with mFoundry’s Spotlight Financial Platform software to create a comprehensive mobile wallet solution for the U.S. and international markets. The combination of the two companies’ world-class capabilities to span both prepaid and postpaid subscribers’ needs will further adoption by mobile operators, financial institutions and consumers globally.'

Fidelity National Information Services has announced the signing of an agreement with mFoundry to offer hosted mobile banking and payment solutions to its banking and credit union clients using mFoundry’s Spotlight Financial Platform.

ClairMail and mFoundry have announced a strategic partnership to offer "the industry’s most comprehensive mobile banking service that includes the “triple play” of mobile user interfaces – messaging (SMS and email), mobile web and client applications."

mFoundry has announced completion of a $15 million Series C round of financing led by Motorola Ventures, the strategic venture capital arm of Motorola, Inc. PayPal, NCR Corporation and a "leading wireless operator" also joined the round along with existing investors.

BB&T has announced it is the first customer of a new partnership between ClairMail and mFoundry for mobile banking and mobile payment services. BB&T said that its "three-phase rollout of the new service is set to begin next month and is expected to be completed in the first quarter when a full menu of mobile banking options will be available to BB&T clients. The services include two-way mobile messaging, mobile Web access and mobile banking applications."

First Data Corp. and mFoundry have announced they will be working together to deliver mobile banking and payment services to U.S. and international mobile subscribers. According to the two companies, "this newly forged relationship will leverage each company's respective strengths in order to offer mobile operators, mobile subscribers, merchants and financial institutions a flexible and easy-to-use solution for mobile financial services."

mFoundry has announced the expansion of its Spotlight Financial Platform to enable mobile banking applications on the iPhone.

ViVOtech and mFoundry have announced they will be working together to "provide mobile financial services to wireless customers. mFoundry’s and ViVOtech’s technologies, when combined, give consumers a simple new way to use their mobile phone for contactless payments, banking and commerce."

Javelin Strategy & Research has announced new research that it says "uncovers significant product marketing requirements for building banks' consumer usage of mobile services. While consumers are better primed for mobile banking now than they were in 2000, financial institutions (FIs) should not consider the mere availability of mobile banking a guarantee of success. FIs should prepare for measured, rather than widespread and immediate, adoption, even though consumers, handsets and mobile networks have made tremendous advancements."

The PELORUS Group has announced "M-Payments & M-Banking: The Rise of Mobile Financial Services" being held June 27 & 28, 2007 at Caesars Atlantic City. "Dedicated to defining the sweeping changes that will be triggered as mobile financial services take hold, the event will focus on why mobile payments and banking services will become entrenched so quickly, and what banks, retailers, credit card issuers and other vested concerns should be doing to prepare for - and indeed capitalize on - the phenomenon."

mFoundry has announced an agreement with Sprint to bring mobile banking and financial services to Sprint customers with Vision or Power Vision phones, enabling them to check their bank balances, transfer funds between their accounts, make bill payments and more, with participating banks.

mFoundry has announced the formal release of its Spotlight Mobile Financial Platform - calling it "a “single click” financial services solution that serves the needs of financial institutions, wireless operators and their customers."

Netbanker's Jim Bruene reports on his reactions to yesterday's public session at the Mobile Payment Forum's Spring Member Meeting being held in San Diego - saying that "despite being a payments forum, most of the talk centered around online banking (Firethorn, ClairMail, mFoundry, Sapphire), mobile advertising (Erico), and ecommerce (eBizMobility)."
