InComm has announced that, beginning today, Seiyu shoppers can purchase a range of iTunes Cards at all 392 retail locations throughout Japan through in-store technology powered by InComm's Fastcard point-of-sale activation (POS) technology. In late April, First Data Corp. announced the acquisition of InComm, a marketer, distributor and technology innovator of stored value gift and prepaid products. At the time, specific terms weren't announced. Yesterday, First Data filed a 10-Q with the SEC reporting its financial results for the first quarter of 2008. In that filing, First Data disclosed more information about the acquisition: "The Company will acquire InComm for approximately $980 million, plus contingent future payments of up to $250 million over a three-year performance period." FDC says the acquisition is expected to close later this year.

American Greetings Corporation has announced that its U.S. card and gift shops "will soon sell gift cards for other retailers, making them the first mall-based stores to offer what is known as a "gift card mall."

7-Eleven has announced that its stores have begun selling the Vanilla Visa Gift Card issued by Elan Financial Services and distributed by InComm.

InComm has announced that the Mio Money Prepaid MasterCard and the Mio Now Card issued by BankFirst are now available to consumers with no monthly fees attached. When the card is used, consumers pay a fee - but there is no longer a monthly fee.

MasterCard Worldwide and InComm have announced the successful completion of the first cardholder point of sale transaction using the MasterCard rePower Load Network. MasterCard describes rePower as a new service "that allows consumers to add money to eligible MasterCard or Maestro branded prepaid cards at participating merchant locations."

InComm has announced that its new payment kiosks are "enabling retailers to offer their customers a self-service solution to pay utility or wireless bills, top up prepaid wireless, buy new songs for mp3 players and more."

Patti Bond writes for the Cox News Service about InComm's delight with the boom in gift cards. "More people will receive gift cards this year than ever before, and that's because now there's a much bigger selection," said Tim McCallum, senior vice president of gift cards at InComm. "Retailers have either expanded their displays or have decided to carry gift cards for the first time, so this is going to be an explosive year in the business."

InComm has announced that it now offers "technical solutions that enable retail customers to order and manage postpaid services, including wireless, broadband or television. Merchants and their customers can leverage InComm technology to sign up for postpaid services, pay their monthly services bills and do many other things at convenient retail locations such as grocery stores or big box retailers."

Green Dot Corporation and InComm have announced today that they have signed a distribution agreement that "will enable the two companies to share technology, retail networks, and marketing opportunities."

InComm says that, while many companies can provide gift cards for incentive programs, it "enables its partners to differentiate their offerings with exclusive features that have proven extremely popular among consumers."

Atlanta-based InComm says it anticipates the greatest demand in history for its products and services this Holiday shopping season. "We've never seen demand so high," said Brooks Smith, InComm President and CEO. "We have a unique perspective in that we see the increased demand and resulting sales across all retail channels. We expect our gift card sales to at least triple last year's numbers, and our retail partners and their customers will benefit from expanded offerings at more convenient shopping locations."

John Lofstock writes for Convenience Store Decisions about "gift card malls" - the term used in the industry referring to a designated display of retailer gift cards - enabled by providers including Safeway's Blackhawk Network, InComm and CoinStar EPayment Services. Lofstock reports that Blackhawk is in 38,000 stores nationwide, including Safeway, Wawa, Circle K, Petro-Canada and Chevron.

InComm has announced a partnership with KING Products and Solutions that enables InComm to provide retailers with self-service kiosks to offer highly popular prepaid wireless products and bill payment services.
