Android Pay Begins Roll Out

Android Pay 140pxGoogle has announced the beginning of the roll out of Android Pay - saying it will be "rolling out gradually over the next few days, and this is just the beginning. We will continue to add even more features, banks and store locations in the coming months, making it even easier to pay with your Android phone."
Android Pay works with all NFC-enabled Android devices (running KitKat 4.4+), on any mobile carrier, at every tap and pay ready location across the US. Android Pay will support credit and debit cards from the four major payment networks: American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa. These cards are issued by many of the most popular US banks and credit unions, including American Express, Bank of America, Discover, Navy Federal Credit Union, PNC, Regions Bank, USAA, and U.S. Bank. Citi and Wells Fargo will be available in the next few days, Capital One is coming soon, and we’re adding new banks all the time.
Google also announced that "later this year, you’ll also be able to use Android Pay to speed through mobile checkout in your favorite apps. And with select merchants, you'll soon be able to transmit your loyalty cards and special offers with just a tap."

MasterCard Launches Digital Enablement Express Program - Google, Samsung Join

MasterCard logo 140pxThis morning MasterCard announced the launch of a new Digital Enablement Express (Express) program designed to expedites the process of digitizing and tokenizing MasterCard accounts through the MasterCard Digital Enablement Service (MDES).

According to the press release, "financial institutions of all sizes gain immediate access to the latest digital payments services, while MasterCard partners – digital wallet providers, device manufacturers, card on file merchants and other digital payment providers – have a simple onboarding process to engage with all participating banks."

Capital One, Fifth Third Bank and KeyBank are among the first issuers to announce their support for the program.

MasterCard is working relentlessly to increase payment security and enable innovative new digital services for consumers, to the benefit of all participants in our network,” said Ed McLaughlin, Chief Emerging Payments Officer at MasterCard.

“Express now allows key technology partners to make their offerings available to all MasterCard issuers in a simple, safe and consistent manner, extending our network model into digital enablement.”

In conjunction with the announcement of Express, MasterCard also announced that Google and Samsung have joined the program.

Google Partners with AT&T Wireless, Verizon and T-Mobile USA for Wallet

Google logo 140pxIn a post on the Google Commerce Blog, Ariel Bardin, Vice President of Payments at Google, writes about a new relationship "working with AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, as well as their mobile payments company Softcard, to help more Android users get the benefits of tap and pay."
Under this relationship, the Google Wallet app, including the tap and pay functionality, will come pre-installed on Android phones (running KitKat or higher) sold by these carriers in the US later this year. We’re also acquiring some exciting technology and intellectual property from Softcard to make Google Wallet better."
Softcard commented here. Google Wallet was introduced in 2011 and offers NFC-based mobile payments at participating merchants.
