CyberSource 2013 Online Fraud Report

Cybersource logo 140x60px CyberSource has announced results of its 14th annual survey of eCommerce fraud based on an independent survey of hundreds of online merchants.

In 2012, companies reported losing an average of 0.9% of total online revenue to fraud, similar to 2010 levels. Using 2012 industry market projections on eCommerce sales in North America, we estimate that total revenue loss translates to approximately $3.5 billion. Because the size of the overall market has grown, the revenue loss equates to $100,000,000 more versus 2011.

CyberSource 2012 Online Fraud Report

Cybersource logo 140x60pxCyberSource has announced results of its 13th annual survey of eCommerce fraud based on an independent survey of hundreds of online merchants.

The overall picture: merchants are making gains against fraud but the battle continues. The fraud rate by order (the percentage of orders that turned out to be fraudulent) dropped from 0.9% in 2010 to 0.6% in 2011—the lowest in the 13 year history of the survey. But the cost of combatting fraud continues to grow. Dollar losses were up, manual review continued to climb, and merchants reiterated their concern that fraud is becoming more difficult to detect. 27% of respondents said they are engaged in mobile commerce and initial indicators regarding fraud in that channel are promising.

CyberSource Surveys of eCommerce Fraud Show Mixed Picture

CyberSource_logo-140px.jpgCyberSource has announced the results of its annual surveys of eCommerce fraud in North America and the U.K.

In the U.S. and Canada, online merchants say their 2010 fraud rate remained at 0.9% for the second straight year. U.K. merchants, on the other hand, say their fraud rate rose from 1.6% in 2009 to an average of 1.9% in 2010—twice the rate seen by U.S./Canadian merchants. CyberSource experts point to a number of likely causes for this development in the U.K., ranging from the greater incidence of cross-border eCommerce within the European region to “fraud migration” in which fraudsters, facing stiff challenges in one location, simply direct their efforts elsewhere, including the U.K.
In related news, the CPP Group has released their Card Fraud Index for the UK saying that card fraud affects a quarter of the adult population.

Visa Opens World’s Leading Payments Network to Independent Developers

The Developer Center builds on Authorize.Net’s existing platform, which Visa acquired as part of the purchase of CyberSource earlier this year.

Besides an improved developer program, what's new here is a PCI-friendly card acceptance technique called the Direct Post Method.
