China UnionPay Joins EMVCo

EMVCo has announced that China UnionPay has joined as its latest member. According to the organization, "the addition of this global payment card system demonstrates the industry’s continued commitment globally to adopting and advancing the EMV standard for secure chip credit and debit payments."

Joe Cunningham, Current EMVCo Executive Committee Chair, commented:

EMVCo works to maintain, enhance and evolve EMV Specifications to continue offering secure and interoperable payments across the global payments industry. We are delighted to welcome UnionPay as a member and active contributor to this work. UnionPay’s addition as an equity member of EMVCo further reinforces the growth of the EMV standard globally. Its expertise at a technical, management and implementation level will support our ongoing goal to create a universally consistent and secure infrastructure that supports contact, contactless and mobile chip-based payments into the future.”
UnionPay now has an equal interest in the standards body - along with American Express, JCB, MasterCard and Visa.

Western Union Partners with ChinaPay on Direct RMB Payments for Tuition

WesternUnion logo 140pxWestern Union announced its plans to expand its partnership with ChinaPay, the online and mobile payments subsidiary of UnionPay, to offer an integrated, co-branded platform that will allow universities to give incoming Chinese students the ability to make foreign tuition payments in their home country and currency.

“More students go abroad from China than any other country in the world,” said Kerry Agiasotis, Chief Commercial Officer, Western Union Business Solutions. “Over 1 million Chinese students studied abroad in 2011 and China is clearly an important market for universities globally. I am delighted that our partnership with ChinaPay will allow us to create a platform that will make it easy for them to accept local RMB payments in a timely and efficient manner.”

Planet Payment and China UnionPay Sign Global Processing Agreement

Cup logo 140x60pxPlanet Payment and China UnionPay have announced an agreement that allows Planet Payment's to provide processing support for China UnionPay's credit and debit cards in both card present and card-not-present environments directly to banks and acquirers on a worldwide basis.

"China UnionPay is one of the world's leading bankcard schemes," said Philip D. Beck, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Planet Payment. "With this new agreement, our acquirer or processor customers globally can accept UnionPay credit and PIN debit cards, enabling merchants to sell more goods and services to Chinese cardholders and tapping into one of the largest markets for potential new customers."

WorldPay to Become the Biggest UnionPay Online Acquirer Outside of China

Worldpay logo 140pxWorldPay and China UnionPay have today announced "a partnership which will see WorldPay become the biggest acquirer outside of China for eCommerce UnionPay transactions. The agreement will see WorldPay become the first UnionPay Online Payment acquirer in the US and the vast majority of Europe1, to enable merchants to sell directly to consumers in China, as well as UnionPay cardholders outside of China."

NYCE Inks Agreement with China’s UnionPay

Cup logo 140x60pxNYCE logo 140pxNYCE has announced that it has signed an agreement with UnionPay (China’s bankcard association) to allow cardholders reciprocal access to ATMs in both networks.

“UnionPay attaches high value to giving UnionPay cards as many access points to their funds as possible. By enhancing the cooperation with its partners, UnionPay is focusing on building broader acceptance in the U.S.,” said Jianbo Cai, First EVP of China UnionPay. “Now more and more ATMs in the U.S. will accept UnionPay cards at key locations that are enabled via the NYCE Payments Network. This new cooperation between UnionPay and NYCE can serve both UnionPay and NYCE cardholders more effectively. We also believe that UnionPay and NYCE will have greater win-win opportunities in the future.”

Elavon and China UnionPay Reach Processing Agreement

Elavon logo 140pxElavon and China UnionPay have announced they have "signed a binding agreement to enable acceptance for UnionPay’s debit and credit cards at Elavon’s merchants in the United States and Europe. The deal also extends credit card acceptance to Elavon’s Canadian merchants and will expand to include Latin America in the future."
