Western Union Launches Bill Presentment Solution for Smartphones

WesternUnion logo 140pxWestern Union announced the release of an enhancement to its Western Union Speedpay service designed to help billers meet growing consumer demand to receive electronic bills through smartphones and mobile devices.
“Our Western Union Payments Money Mindset Index shows that consumers, whose use of mobile devices is outpacing all other media, are looking for a wider range of payment options from billers,” David Shapiro, senior vice president, Payments, Western Union, said. “Western Union is dedicated to providing billers with robust bill pay solutions, while giving consumers a variety of user-friendly options to receive and pay their bills.”

The enhancement was developed with eBill presentment specialist, Striata, and operates across multiple platforms and devices, including Android, Blackberry, iPhone, iPad.

MoreMagic Launches Mobile Commerce Applications for Smartphones

Blackberry Payment Service

blackberry_logo_140px.pngRIM used its Blackberry DevCon 2010 conference yesterday to announce a number of services for developers, including a new Payment Service that allows developers to initiate payment transactions from within mobile apps. Their message to developers:
The Payment Service provides a familiar, fast and secure purchase experience for users. Using their BlackBerry® ID, they can apply various payment methods, including credit card, PayPal® and carrier billing, towards the purchase of digital goods you define—all without leaving your app.
An early release of the Payments Service SDK is available now. RIM also announced developers will receive 70% of in-app revenues.

Android Struggling to Mimic iPhone's Pay-to-Own Marketplace?

In a blog post on AppleInsider, Distimo - an app store analytics firm - looks at the breakdown of free apps versus paid apps across all the major mobile app stores, as well as assorted metrics around paid app pricing:
More generally, Distimo revealed that more than 50% of applications are priced below or equal to $2.00 in all of the electronic app stores, with the exception of BlackBerry App World and Windows Marketplace for Mobile.
Google's Android Market stands out from the other marketplaces in that more than 50% of all apps are free.

Wells Fargo Introduces Mobile Apps for Android, BlackBerry and Palm

Wells FargoWells Fargo has announced the launch of new mobile banking applications for Android, BlackBerry, and Palm. Wells Fargo customers may choose the Mobile Banking services that best suit their needs from a menu of options on Wells Fargo's newly expanded Mobile Banking Resource Center.

"We are listening and responding to our customers by broadening our mobile banking services," said Arah Erickson, head of Wells Fargo Retail Mobile Banking. "Our goal is to make it even more convenient for customers to access their account information – anytime, anywhere – helping them save time and providing peace-of-mind. Wells Fargo Mobile Banking makes it fast, easy, and secure for customers to stay in touch with their finances.”
