Android Pay Begins Roll Out

Android Pay 140pxGoogle has announced the beginning of the roll out of Android Pay - saying it will be "rolling out gradually over the next few days, and this is just the beginning. We will continue to add even more features, banks and store locations in the coming months, making it even easier to pay with your Android phone."
Android Pay works with all NFC-enabled Android devices (running KitKat 4.4+), on any mobile carrier, at every tap and pay ready location across the US. Android Pay will support credit and debit cards from the four major payment networks: American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa. Citi and Wells Fargo will be available in the next few days, Capital One is coming soon, and we’re adding new banks all the time.
Google also announced that "later this year, you’ll also be able to use Android Pay to speed through mobile checkout in your favorite apps. And with select merchants, you'll soon be able to transmit your loyalty cards and special offers with just a tap."

  • The European Union Helps Consumers by Capping Swipe Fees While the U.S. Lags - "The 28 countries of the European Union agreed with a committee of the EU’s Parliament to cap the fees merchants pay banks every time a customer swipes a card at 0.2 percent on debit cards and at 0.3 percent on credit cards. Countries can also set a five-cent cap on debit transactions. The agreement also makes the card business more transparent, so that consumers can see how much swipe fees raise prices where they shop."
