AFP Payments Newsletter for November Now Available

The Association for Financial Professionals' November Payments Newsletter is now available. Payments includes features on emerging payments issues, Q&As with payments newsmakers, news briefs and expert-authored guest columns. In the November issue are articles on wire format changes coming next year to allow for remittance data, a column authored by Anita Patterson who directs treasury services for Cox Enterprises, a Q&A with the Federal Reserve’s Ken Isaacson, and an excerpt from our magazine written by the Fed’s Lauren Hargraves and Hank Farrar at The Clearing House.

A Look at Same Day ACH

Over on PaymentsViews.com, Glenbrook's Carol Coye Benson writes about the Same Day ACH session at this week's Association for Finance Professionals conference in San Francisco.

Carol writes: "The same day ACH proposal has most typically been talked about as a service which will apply to check conversion transactions – to enable electronics to clear as fast as paper would (don’t you love that). But I had not realized before that the Fed is also talking about this applying to WEB transactions. This would mean all those alternative-payment schemes for eCommerce could clear faster than card transactions!" Click to read more!

AFP Finds Payments Fraud Rampant in Majority of US Organizations

Deteriorating financial conditions in 2008 coupled with the emergence of new payments types and the growth of electronic payments opened up new opportunities for payment fraud, according to the 2009 AFP Payments and Fraud Control Survey. According to AFP, "the assault on payments is widespread: over seventy percent of organizations surveyed experienced attempted or actual payments fraud in 2008." The survey was sponsored by J.P.
