  • As Credit Unions Adopt EMV, They Start To See Quick Gains in Fraud Reduction - Digital Transactions - "Credit unions are making fast progress in their rollout of EMV chip cards, according to an update from PSCU, a major payments processor for this segment of the financial-services industry. Some 85% of PSCU’s clients have introduced, or are introducing, EMV credit cards, while the corresponding number for EMV debit card issuance is 60%, the St. Petersburg, Fla.-based organization said Tuesday."

  • CFPB Orders TransUnion and Equifax to Pay for Deceiving Consumers in Marketing Credit Scores - California Credit Law blog - "The CFPB said that from 2011 to March 2014, TransUnion and Equifax falsely represented that the credit scores they marketed and provided to consumers were the same scores lenders typically use to make credit decisions. In fact, the scores were not typically used by lenders."
  • Will Gift Cards Migrate To Mobile Wallets? - Retail Touch Points - "“We have seen incredible innovation in gift cards recently, with the proliferation of e-gifts, gift card integration into mobile wallets, the emergence of gift card exchanges, and exciting new options like hyper-local gifting,” said Timm Walsh, Board Chairman of the RGCA. “Shoppers appear to be embracing these new options, all the while maintaining a demand for traditional plastic gift cards — 76% plan to buy them this year.”"
  • Mobile payments outgrow smartphones - Live mint - "In India there are many barriers to adopting mobile banking apps, such as: low smartphone ownership, high data charges and patchy internet network availability. Even among those who own smartphones, many just don’t feel comfortable using these apps. USSD-based services let you do mobile banking without having to download any app on the phone, and these can be used equally well from smartphones as well as basic feature phones, which cannot access mobile data."
  • Synaptics' new biometric solution combines fingerprint authentication with facial recognition - Techspot - "Developed in collaboration with facial recognition specialist KeyLemon, backed by SentryPoint technology and fully integrated into Synaptics’ Natural ID fingerprint sensors, the fusion engine leverages both fingerprint and facial recognition as authentication methods for smartphones, tablets and notebooks."
  • Homeless people trial contactless payments jacket to receive donations - NFC World - "Homeless people in the Dutch cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam have been testing a jacket equipped with a contactless terminal to enable passersby to tap their contactless cards and make a €1 (US$1.04) donation, which can then be redeemed through official homeless shelters."

  • Starbucks app integrates with Bitcoin wallet - Mobile Commerce Daily - "Customers using the Starbucks app can now pay through iPayYou’s Bitcoin wallet to pay for an assortment of items on its menu. iPayYou works through automated conversion processes to convert the oft-volatile cryptocurrency into USD in real time, through a tool called Bitcoin Direct to Starbucks."
  • VW Buys Mobile-Payment Provider PayByPhone for Parking Services - Bloomberg - "The purchase of Vancouver-based PayByPhone, which processed more than $250 million in transactions this year, will turn the German company’s Volkswagen Financial Services unit into the leader in mobile payments for parking, the automaker said Wednesday in a statement. The companies aren’t disclosing the cost of the acquisition."
