Glenbrook Launches News Series of eCommerce Market Analysis Reports

Visa Reports Fiscal 1Q 2011 Results

Visa logo 60pxhVisa has announced financial results for the Company's fiscal 1Q 2011 ended December 31, 2010 with GAAP net income for the quarter of $884 million on GAAP net operating revenue of $2.2 billion, an increase of 14% over the prior year. Fiscal 1Q 2011 highlights include:
    Payments volume growth, on a constant dollar basis, for the three months ended September 30, 2010, on which fiscal first quarter service revenue is recognized, was a positive 14% over the prior year at $829 billion.

  • Payments volume growth, on a constant dollar basis, for the three months ended December 31, 2010, was a positive 15% over the prior year at $897 billion.

  • Cross border volume growth, on a constant dollar basis, was a positive 15% for the three months ended December 31, 2010.

  • Total processed transactions, which represent transactions processed by VisaNet, for the three months ended December 31, 2010, were 13 billion, a positive 15% increase over the prior year.
Client incentives, which are a contra revenue item, were $405 million and represents 15% of gross revenues. A webcast replay is available on the Visa investor website.

MasterCard Announces 4Q and Full-Year 2010 Financial Results

MasterCard logo 140px MasterCard has announced financial results for the four quarter and full-year 2010.
  • For 4Q 2010, the company reported net revenue of $1.4 billion, a 10.7% increase versus the same period in 2009. On a constant currency basis, net revenue increased 13.0% compared to the same period in 2009.

  • For the full year, MasterCard reported net revenue of $5.5 billion, an increase of 8.6% versus 2009. On a constant currency basis, net revenue increased 9.5%. Cross-border volume growth of 15.2% and gross dollar volume growth of 9.1%, contributed to the net revenue growth in the full-year period.

Buyster Joint Venture to Focus on Mobile Internet Payments

Buyster logosAtos Origin and the three major French mobile operators have announced the formation of a joint venture called "Buyster" which is tasked with developing, marketing, and operating a new mobile payment system in France.
Buyster is an innovative, simple, fast and secure remote payment solution for fixed and mobile Internet purchases, which will be available in France from mid-2011. Against a backdrop of sustained growth in eCommerce and an increase in purchases being made from new types of screen, including smartphones and touchscreen devices, the three French mobile operators (Bouygues Telecom, Orange and SFR) and Atos Origin, through Atos Worldline, a European leader in electronic transactions and secure payments, are bringing together their expertise in telecoms and payment to launch this new solution.
The new solution is being backed by major online French retailers, including Aquarelle, Brandalley, Darty and Rue du Commerce.

MasterCard, Standard Chartered, and airtel Africa Launch Virtual Card on a Phone

MasterCard logo 140px Dateline Nairobi -- MasterCard, Standard Chartered Bank, and airtel Africa have launched the world’s first virtual card that operates off a wallet residing on a mobile phone. "This innovative payment method known as airtel 1time Shopping Card will offer communities the opportunity for greater participation in the financial system as they realize the substantial benefits of mobile commerce. This single use shopping card will soon be available in Kenya and rolled out to markets across Africa, subject to regulatory approvals."

BillingTree On Demand 'Debit Cards Only' Solution

Billingtree logo 140pxIt recently came to our attention, perhaps as a sign of things to come, that BillingTree now offers an optimized 'Debit Cards Only' payment acceptance solution.
Debit Cards Only was created specifically for companies unable or unwilling to accept other forms of payment. Features and benefits of the new Debit Cards Only solution includes intuitive filtering for non-qualified card BINs, compliance with association regulations, the ability to receive payments online through a secured web presence, agent or IVR and a rich interface though which businesses can manage debit card only payments.
The solution appears to be positioned for CNP billers.

First Data Reports Fourth Quarter and Full-Year 2010 Results

First data logo 140pxFirst Data reported its financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended Dec. 31, 2010.
  • Consolidated revenue for the fourth quarter of $2.7 billion was up 6% compared to a year ago. Revenue growth was primarily attributable to increases in debit network fees and merchant related services from the favorable impact of modest U.S. economic growth. Adjusted revenue, which excludes reimbursables, increased 1% year-over-year to $1.7 billion.
  • Consolidated revenue for the full year 2010 was up 11% to $10.4 billion due to the formation of the Bank of America Merchant Services alliance and increases in debit network fees.

Visa Europe and Wireless Dynamics Bring Contactless Payments to iPhone

Visa logo 140pxVisa Europe and Wireless Dynamics have announced that they have developed a mobile contactless payment solution that will bring Visa contactless payments to iPhone users across Europe.
iPhone users simply attach the Wireless Dynamics iCarte accessory, available through their bank or mobile operator, to their iPhone and download the companion Visa Mobile application for iCarte App from the App Store.
