MasterCard Europe has unveiled a next generation debit card - with the first roll-out of a new display payment card.  According to the company, "Turkish bank TEB, a subsidiary of BNP Paribas, will be the first issuer to bring the display card to consumers with a Maestro® eCommerce authentication programme that kicks off in July across Turkey, with new features to be added onto the card in the near future. The UK's Newcastle Building Society has also committed to the first pilot of the balance display functionality later this year." READ MORE »

A new white paper titled "Fraud Trends in 2010: Top Threats From a Growing Underground Economy" by Rick Van Luvender Director, First Data InfoSec Incident Response Center, First Data Corp. is now available.

Interestingly, he writes: "...just as corporate IT managers have come to rely on the Internet to satisfy on-demand software needs in the form of Software as a Service (SaaS), so has the underground economy developed a similar infrastructure for delivering Fraud as a Service (FaaS), according to fraud experts from the InfoSec Incident Response Center at First Data."

MasterCard has announced the availability of the MasterCard MoneySend service for iPhone and iPad users - providing a new way to transfer money in the United States from person-to person from iPhone or iPad's. Monitise Americas has announced that PyraMax Bank has launched an iPhone app powered by its technology. According to Monitise, "the release heralds a turning point in the mobile banking industry. Until now, bank-branded iPhone applications have been the privilege only of big-spending, large banks. However, thanks to its world-class technology, Monitise Americas can now build iPhone apps quickly and cost effectively, enabling mobile banking for many more financial institutions than previously possible." The Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) has released the Executive Summary of the results of a three-day nationwide cyber attack simulation exercise conducted in February. FS-ISAC conducted the Cyber Attack against Payment Processes (CAPP) exercise in conjunction with a variety of payment systems industry partners to test the ability of financial institutions, retailers, card processors, and businesses to respond to and recover from major cyber attack incidents impacting payment processes. BOKU has announced the launch of a global in-app mobile billing solution for the Google Android mobile platform. According to the company, "the BOKU Payments SDK is a toolkit for developers to easily enhance and monetize any Android app with in-app purchases via carrier billing. Following the recent entry of paysafecard into the Latin American market, GlobalCollect has announced it has increased the number of countries where it offers this payment method to include Argentina. According to the companies, "paysafecard enables consumers to make online cash payments in local currencies without needing a bank account or credit card. In a region where - according to the World Bank - only 30% of adults have a bank account, offering alternative payment methods such as cash and prepaid is crucial for e- commerce merchants to succeed. paysafecard is being distributed via 3,500 outlets in Argentina, which will be the company's base for further expansion into Mexico." Zong has announced what it calls "the first one-click mobile payment solution for Android" and has opened a private beta for Android developers to integrate this payment option into their applications. According to the company, "the new payment solution creates a seamless experience for users who can now make a purchase within an application with just one click; no registration or log-in is required. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PATH), NJ TRANSIT (NJT) and MasterCard have announced the launch of a six month pilot program in which MasterCard PayPass will be accepted for fare payments on select train and bus routes throughout New York City and New Jersey. According to the companies, the service "enables riders of the three transit systems to purchase fares and transfer between transit systems simply by tapping a single type of contactless credit or debit card or device." According to a press release, the service will be "available exclusively to MasterCard PayPass customers during the first two months of the trial" before being opened up to other payments brands. Magento has introduced Magento Mobile - calling it "a new product that addresses the need for merchants to reach consumers through mobile devices." Magento mobile integrates with Magento’s e-commerce platform and uses PayPal’s mobile payments library to streamline checkout on a mobile device. Magento Mobile "transforms a retailer’s product catalog into a fully-functional, branded, native application which merchants can use to interact and transact with their most valuable customers in a way unlike any other channel." TMG (The Members Group) has announced it is expanding its portfolio of products to include mobile banking and transaction alerting solutions. TMG says it has partnered with MShift - "leveraging their technology to bring to the table a holistic device, carrier and content agnostic mobile banking solution for FIs." TMG is also making available a transaction alerting service enabled by Visa that can also serve as a mobile fraud-detection measure.
