How to Find a Credit Card Processing Merchant Account
In an article titled "TransFS Launches Comparison Site for Credit Card Processing Fees", TechCrunch profiles TransFS - one of a new breed of websites designed to help businesses comparison shop among various merchant acquirers and ISOs for the best deal that matches their needs. TransFS collects information from the merchant and then gathers bids from providers to present back. The TransFS blog provides a steady stream of helpful, merchant-related articles as well.
Another new entrant into this space is Payments-R-Us (www.paymentsrus.com) that focuses on online merchant payment solutions. Unlike the auction process managed by TransFS, Payments-R-Us offers a free "suggester" based upon the merchant answering some basic questions about their business. Payments-R-Us also has a collection of reference materials helpful to online ecommerce merchants.

The folks at CreditCards.com have also been running a microsite for merchant account selection at http://www.merchantaccountguide.com/

TransFS "comparison" and PaymentsRus "suggester" are nice yet result with a limited number of providers which are not necessarily the perfect fit for your needs...
Take a look at www.CCPrUs.com. These guys bring transparency to the credit card processing industry. All major players are presented by category helping the merchant to drill into the category which fits him most, compare all vendors on the category and make a true non-biased decision who to approach. Though CCPrUs has a live chat and a contact-us feature, you are not obligated to provide personal and business details to receive the service…!

Went to look at both of these sites. Look pretty lame to me. I tried sending a comment to the PaymentsRUs site and the email address bounced. They list companies like GoogleCheckOut as a payment processor. Seems pretty obvious rather than helping, they are just adding to the market confusion.

Hello,
As a long-time merchant services rep, I have built a mutually rewarding relationship with my merchants by educating them on the industry. In 2005, I was diagnosed with neck cancer and am no longer active in the field. Since then, I have developed a few educational websites that help merchants to understand the industry better for their benefit. I believe my sites would be advantageous to your readers. Please contact me with any questions that you may have.

There are better ways than simply going through a broker that is trying to get you to switch to one of their processors. All of these brokers get paid a fee from the processor to get your business to switch to their platform.
It is far better to educate yourself or go to an independent third party expert like Financial Mitigation Services or others.

I've spent the past month trying to find a merchant account for my business. I stumbled upon this article just now, and would consider trying either of those services, but from a merchant's perspective it still kind of makes me wonder whether or not the "suggestions" are based upon referral payouts, or actual recommendations. I stumbled upon this site (merchantmaverick.com) a little while back, which on top of its reviews, kind of gave me the motivation to research these ISOs on my own. So, I think a combination of reviews, references and my own research would probably land me in the same spot that these other guys can.
