Visa Launches ATMs for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
Visa today unveiled a new look for the ATM kiosks to be installed specially for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. According to Visa, "the artwork on the ATM kiosks has been inspired by Chinese culture and calligraphy. It uses blue and white brush strokes and traditional signature seal designs which are most recognizable on traditional Chinese porcelain vases."
Twenty-six such ATM kiosks will be installed at competition and non-competition venues1 including the Main Olympic Press Center, International Broadcasting Center (IBC) and the Green Home Media Village to make it easier for those going to the Games to access cash.
Richard Chang, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Greater China and the Philippines for Visa said, “We wanted to be able to showcase our partnership with the Games in Beijing in an aesthetically appealing and instantly recognizable way for visitors to the Games. That is why we designed unique ATM kiosks that we believe marry the traditional beauty of Chinese art with modern technology.”
Visa has been an official worldwide sponsor and the only card accepted at all venues of the Olympic Games since 1986.
Visa and its client banks in China have installed more than 90,000 ATMs and signed up some 216,000 merchant locations or outlets throughout China as of December 2007 to help prepare for the expected influx of international visitors from this year.
As a service for its cardholders at the Olympic Games, Visa is working with BOCOG to provide multilingual information services and general assistance for cardholders and visitors.
