SmartPay Launches Utility Bill Payment Service in China
Shanghai SmartPay Jieyin, in partnership with China Unicom, China Unionpay and Huishang Bank, has launched its mobile wallet service for paying utility bills in Anhui Province. This service allows users to pay bills any time, any where, without having to go to banks or toll stations. SmartPay says" 'all they have to do is to send a SMS and bills are paid, saving time and cost.'
For some time, people have been complaining about the hassles of paying utility bills: notification wasn't delivered, waiting time was too long, business hours were not right. ... In the mean time, construction of toll stations costs quite a lot and overall takes a long time, but it only serves for a single function after being built, thus not enough stations were built; and banks which offer utility payment services find it necessary to decrease their counters as they are trying to reduce costs. A new way of payment is demanded.
Using SmartPay's technology platform, the Mobile-Wallet service sweeps all those problems away and signing up with the service is simple and easy. Users go to China Unicom's offices with bank cards, mobile phones and IDs, and register a number; later on every month they'll receive an SMS on their mobile phones which lists bill details, by replying to this SMS, bills are paid, and an SMS confirmation will be sent to users. At present, Mobile-Wallet can be used for top ups, e-ticketing and lottery purchases; and a lot more will be included in the future.
SmartPay estimates 300,000 users are to register within one year as this service will be promoted throughout the province.
