Football Fans to ‘Tap & Go’ During the Big Game Using MasterCard PayPass
MasterCard has announced that when the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts go head to head for the championship inside Dolphin Stadium on February 4th, "fans purchasing souvenirs or concessions will spend less time standing in line and more time catching the on-field action when they use MasterCard PayPass – a contactless payment option that reduces transaction times – installed at Dolphin Stadium prior to the start of the football season. MasterCard PayPass is also accepted at numerous other merchants throughout the Miami area."
With MasterCard PayPass, cardholders simply tap their PayPass-enabled card or device on the specially-equipped terminals throughout the stadiums. When purchasing concessions under $25, no signature is required to complete the transaction. In addition to Dolphin Stadium, the new technology has been installed in nine other football stadiums and 12 baseball stadiums nationwide. Fans of the Chicago Bears will be familiar with the technology, as it was also deployed at Soldier Field prior to the 2006 season.MasterCard PayPass had a presence during the AFC Championship game as well with a new television commercial starring Vinny Testaverde. The spot featured Testaverde, in uniform, getting food at a concession stand within a stadium during a game. Testaverde continued to receive calls from the field on his mobile phone while he was paying for each order with his MasterCard PayPass card. The spot ended with the tag line “…for Game Day, there’s MasterCard PayPass.”
“At MasterCard we are fans too, and with the Chicago Bears’ exciting defense and the Indianapolis Colts’ explosive offense, we know consumers won’t want to miss any of the championship game action,” said T.J. Sharkey, Group Head, National Accounts, U.S. Commerce Development, MasterCard Worldwide. “By using MasterCard PayPass for game-day purchases, be it at Dolphin Stadium or a local merchant between quarters in their home town, we hope fans can get back to their seats instead of waiting in lines.”
Dolphin Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, is joined by Arrowhead Stadium, FedEx Field, Ford Field, Giants Stadium, Lincoln Financial Field, M&T Bank Stadium, Qwest Field, Soldier Field, and University of Phoenix Stadium – homes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, New York Giants and Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, and Arizona Cardinals respectively as football stadiums equipped with MasterCard PayPass.
