Sam’s Club Partners With MasterCard For Credit Card Acceptance

Tags » Credit Cards, MasterCard, Merchants, Visa  » Comments (0)

Sam’s Club and MasterCard Worldwide have announced that Sam's Club will begin accepting MasterCard credit cards today for payment at all U.S, Puerto Rico and Canada Sam’s Club locations. Sam's Club has annual revenues of about $40 billion per year - some of which will now be captured as MasterCard purchase volume. Until today, the retailer had only accepted credit cards issued by Discover and its own private label cards. According to the press release "now all MasterCard cardholders, both consumers and business owners, with a Sam’s Club Membership, have access to exceptional values on a multitude of goods and services as well as affordable luxury merchandise." Robin Sidel And Kris Hudson report on the news for the this morning's Wall St. Journal saying that the deal for MasterCard is "a coup in its rivalry with Visa USA Inc." as Sam's is not also accepting Visa's credit cards.

“Our Members have told us that they like having credit options for their purchases at Sam’s Club and as we continue to focus on how we enhance their experience, the addition of MasterCard is a natural extension of our commitment to meet their needs,” said Mark Goodman, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Membership and E-Commerce, Sam’s Club. “MasterCard is a preeminent global brand. We are pleased to be offering it as a credit option in Sam’s Club and with their efforts to create a holistic program as part of our partnership.”

Sam’s Club provides both quality merchandise including high end electronics and jewelry in addition to personal needs and a variety of supplies and services for business including health insurance, merchant credit card processing and travel services as well as other programs.

“Now more consumers can access the tremendous value Sam’s Club offers and enjoy purchasing flexibility with their MasterCard,” said Gareth Forsey, Group Executive, US Commerce Development, MasterCard Worldwide. “Both Sam’s Club and MasterCard strive to deliver value to its customers and, together, we will continue to serve the discerning consumer population of our shared customer, the MasterCard cardholder.”
