Distributing Prepaid Cards Through Worker Centers
The Center for Financial Services Innovation has posted a new paper titled "Distributing Prepaid Cards Through Worker Centers: A Gateway to Asset Building for Low-Income Households" (PDF) by Katy Jacob, Janice Fine and Lauren Leimbach.
A collaborative pilot program between the Center for Community Change and the Center for Financial Resources has been established to engage worker centers as a primary point-of-access to pre-paid cards for immigrant workers. The model is based on a recent survey of 480 immigrant workers which assessed their experiences with and expectations of financial tools and institutions. To effectively serve the immigrant worker market using prepaid cards, it is hypothesized that channeling card marketing, distribution, and management to a place that a substantial number of immigrant workers frequent, such as worker centers, will increase the awareness and use of prepaid cards.
