LSU Becomes First University To Accept Contactless Credit Cards
Chase and LSU have announced they have teamed up to bring credit card acceptance to Tiger Stadium for payment at designated concession and merchant stands throughout the stadium. Tiger Stadium also becomes the first college stadium to accept contactless credit card payments with blink technology.
Surprisingly, most college stadiums are not equipped to handle credit or debit card transactions. “You don’t go to a game to stand in line,” remarked Skip Bertman, Athletic Director at LSU. “But with most major college stadiums seating more than 80,000 people, it’s likely that fans will miss the big play doing just that,” added Bertman.“Tiger fans deserve the best, and this technology advancement creates a better fan experience,” stated Bertman. “Whether fans forgot to bring extra cash or simply want to earn rewards with each purchase, credit cards offer convenience and these extra perks.”
As the official bank of the LSU Tigers, Chase has partnered with LSU since 1998 to provide alumni and fans a credit card that gives back to the University with each card purchase in support of LSU’s athletic programs. In addition, LSU cardmembers can add Chase’s proprietary rewards product to their card, which helps them earn one point for every dollar spent on all card purchases. Once cardmembers have earned 2,500 points, they can redeem them for travel, cash, gift cards and merchandise options.
"Chase is proud to extend our partnership with LSU so we can make attending games the best possible experience for the fans,” said Paul Zoppi, vice president, Chase Card Services. “Deepening our relationship with LSU will help enhance the products and services that we provide to alumni, fans and students.”
Instead of swiping their card or handing it to a concessions’ employee, LSU blink Visa cardmembers simply hold their card near the point-of-sale terminal, the terminal will quickly emit a signal to acknowledge payment confirmation in a safe, secure and time-saving manner. blink technology has already found success at other large sports stadiums such as PETCO Park in San Diego, Ameriquest Field in Arlington, Texas and Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
“Once again LSU and Chase stand out for bringing the convenience and speed of Visa Contactless to the alumni and students of LSU,” said Brian Triplett, senior vice president for Emerging Product Development, Visa USA. “As contactless technology continues to be embraced by merchants nationwide, LSU fans will be able to use their Chase Visa cards with blink for all their every day purchases.”
