Obopay Developing BREW Extension to Enable Mobile Payments

Tags » Mobile Payments, Obopay

Obopay has announced that it will enable a new phone payment option for online retailers and BREW mobile application providers that provides merchants an easy and low-cost way to process mobile payment transactions and enables consumers to easily initiate purchases from their mobile phones with a simple touch of the keypad.

"The Obopay mobile payment service is revolutionizing the world of commerce, and by providing this BREW extension we will help change the way people shop and spend while on their mobile phones," said Howard B. Gefen, executive vice president, marketing and business development of Obopay. "Our participation in the BREW Developer Alliance Program at the Elite BREW(R) Developer level has afforded us the tools to meet our consumers' demands easily. Our studies show that consumers, particularly young consumers, want intelligent, flexible and integrated commerce services such as Obopay."

"Obopay's M-Commerce extension for the BREW solution underscores our commitment to offer a diverse and simple shopping experience for consumers, while maximizing revenue opportunities for operators and content providers," said Sachin Deshpande, head of developer relations for QUALCOMM Internet Services. "Obopay will foster a new generation of exciting features and services that support a wide range of premium applications. This is just one of the ways that the BREW solution allows a more personalized wireless experience."

The Obopay BREW extension will consist of both a dynamic and static offering. The dynamic offering allows BREW developers to integrate a module within their application and back-end infrastructure without any additional development work. For applications that are more sophisticated, or those requiring specialized commerce transactions, the static offering will allow BREW handset manufacturers to customize the application prior to integration, based on the related mobile operator's technical specifications. Regardless of which BREW extension is integrated, adding Obopay as a payment option will create a new revenue stream from wireless applications and offer a simple way for consumers to purchase goods and services while on the go.
