New Papers From the Philadelphia Fed's Payment Cards Center
The Payments Card Center of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia has announced the availability of two new papers: Measuring U.S. Credit Card Borrowing and Recent Developments in Consumer Credit and Payments.
Measuring U.S. Credit Card Borrowing: An Analysis of the G.19s Estimate of Consumer Revolving Credit, by PCC analysts Mark Furletti and Christopher Ody, describes the Federal Reserve Systems monthly estimate of revolving consumer credit as published in the G.19 statistical release. It analyzes the source data, sampling methods, and calculations on which this estimate currently relies. In addition, it proposes a framework for analyzing the revolving credit statistic and suggests modifications to how the estimate is calculated and presented.Recent Developments in Consumer Credit and Payments, summarizes the fourth conference jointly hosted by the Center and the Banks Research Department to explore new academic research on the topic of consumer credit and payments. During the event, seven research papers were presented on topics such as the design of consumer bankruptcy law, predatory lending, consumers choice of borrowing terms and indebtedness, the function of credit reporting agencies, and pricing in credit card and ATM networks.
