Email Alerts Trigger Early Detection Of Potential Fraud

Tags » Merchants, Processors

CNET's Joris Evers reports on suspicious card activity that took place over the weekend affecting a few merchants on Authorize.net's payment gateway - and how the unusual activity was detected by the merchants involved as a result of the email alerts sent out by Authorize.net the the merchants on each transaction.

The Web hosting companies discovered the unusual charges through e-mail alerts that Authorize.Net sends after each transaction. Close to 3,000 suspicious transactions were pushed through the merchant accounts of three companies with which CNET News.com spoke, and more likely happened at other Web hosts, these three companies said.
