Bank of America Ponders Own Card Network

Tags » Bank of America, MasterCard, Visa

David Mildenberg writes for the Charlotte Business Journal about Bank of America reportedly studying whether it might start its own card network to rival Visa and MasterCard.

He cites an early March report by Morgan Stanley analyst Betsy Graseck in which she estimated that BofA could increase its earnings by $70 million to $75 million annually largely by avoiding card association fees

Editor's note: Sometimes these kinds of strategy exercises don't result in any actual decision to implement but, rather, might be used to help negotiate more favorable pricing from the card associations.
