Put Advertising On Bank Notes
Gillian Jones reports for South Africa's MarketingWeb about an idea being put forth by South African businessman Neil Solomon who says he’s come up with a way for both the US to get rid of its massive budget deficit and for developing countries to earn wads of cash: advertise on money.
In 1995, a poll sponsored by Visa International found that 35 percent of Americans supported the sale of ad space on bills, if the proceeds would be used to reduce the federal deficit.Last year, Solomon applied for a patent to place third-party advertising on all banking materials, such as deposit slips, cheques and bank cards. “It’s a world first. Banks are working on it as we speak,” he says. “But we have to give it time, four to five years.”
