Real Life Chip And PIN Frustrations

Tags » Authentication, Card Issuers, Card Technology, Chip and PIN, Credit Cards

In an article titled 'Pick a card, any card or your number is up," Isabel Berwick writes for the Financial Times (UK) about her personal frustration attempting to check out of a swanky hotel last weekend and not being able to pay because she couldn't remember her PIN.

This hotel was perfectly within its rights to refuse to allow customers to sign for the bill in the old-fashioned way. But it was a lousy conclusion to the weekend and made me determine to jettison all the plastic and use just one credit card with a memorable PIN.
Are the number of credit cards in circulation about to decline in the UK as an "unintended consequence" of Chip and PIN?
