Australia - Merchants Plan Credit Card Surcharges
The Sydney Morning Herald reports on accelerating plans by merchants in Australia to apply surcharges to credit card transactions.
Research firm East and Partners' six monthly merchant acquiring and cards report showed the number of companies planning to apply a surcharge within the next six months increased dramatically.The report found 16.6 per cent of middle market companies - with turnovers of $20 million to $340 million - planned to add a surcharge, compared with 12.2 per cent six months ago. Small to medium enterprises (SME) - with $5 million to $20 million in turnover - followed suit with 14 per cent saying they would apply a surcharge, up from 11.9 per cent.
