US Money Laundering Threat Assessment
In mid-January, the US Department of the Treasury released a new government-wide examination of money laundering vulnerabilities in a report titled "US Money Laundering Threat Assessment" (PDF).
This report include specific chapters on a variety of Money Service Businesses including stored value card systems, online payment systems, etc. and also serves as a reminder about the various obligations that money transmitters and money service businesses must comply with, including registration and/or licensing at both the federal and many state levels (for example, here's PayPal's current list of state licenses and the various statutes in each state). Even agents of MSB's, while they may not be required to register, have to fulfill various record keeping and reporting requirements.
