Payday Loans in Virginia
Jay Speer, acting director of the Virginia Poverty Law Center, writes an op-end piece for the Daily Press in Hampton Roads, VA about the rapid growth in payday loans in that state and reform he wants to see to address the problems he sees.
It's true that many people in our community need help getting from paycheck to paycheck, especially when an emergency arises. However, it is now clear after three years of experience with payday lending in Virginia that payday loans are not helping anyone except the payday lenders who are helping themselves to huge profits at the expense of those who can least afford it.
