Overseas Credit Card Surcharges
David Kelly reports for the New York Times on how recent changes in credit card and debit card fees for international transactions along with the "unintended consequences" of fraud prevention measures by card issuers have made using payment cards tricker and potentially more expensive for consumers.
But transaction fees aren't the only concerns, as credit card companies and banks are cracking down more aggressively on fraud. While that may sound reassuring, it might end up being upsetting: charges suddenly coming from a foreign country can set off alarms at your bank.
