Debit Charges Up Ranks Of Preferred Payments
Lindsay Fiori writes for the Marquette Tribune at Marquette University about the increasing use of debit cards by college students - over credit cards, cash and checks.
The growing popularity of debit cards with college-aged students can be attributed to a variety of factors from convenience to a user's personality."People are skeptical about their own discipline in terms of paying off the balance if they charge something as credit," said professor of accounting Don Giacomino. "With debit, it immediately comes out of your account."
In comparison to cash, debit cards can give students a better sense of security than cash.
"It's safer," said Noreen Lephardt, adjunct assistant professor of economics. "A lot of parents are concerned about students carrying bundles of cash around."
