Wireless: Tagging Cellphones As Electronic Wallets
Ivar Ekman reports from Helsinki for the International Herald Tribune on Near-Field Communication (NFC) and the marriage of NFC technology with the ubiquitous mobile phone.
NFC is sometimes likened to a handshake, or described as the electronic equivalent of tapping someone on the shoulder. Because it cannot be read by machines covertly at a distance, it also removes the feeling of being under constant surveillance, which can be the case with wireless technologies with a greater range.
