MasterCard's IPO Looms

Tags » MasterCard

Steve Gelsi reports for MarketWatch on MasterCard's anticipated initial public offering.

IPO analyst Francis Gaskins of IPODesktop.com said MasterCard's operating profit margin of 22% for the first nine months of 2005 caught his eye, but said the company could face challenges on the regulatory front in Europe, where the company receives about 45% of its business. "They have a high net income margin - you only get that when you have a monopoly or you're a big brand," he said. "They're a possible target for European antitrust regulators."
MasterCard last updated its SEC registration filing a month ago today.
