Debitman Announces New Supermarket Pilots
HAC Inc., operator of 67 supermarkets in Oklahoma and Kansas including 49 Homeland Stores, has announced it is launching its own branded debit card, the One Card Plus, on the Debitman network at five pilot locations. Binghamton Giant Markets in Binghamton, NY has also announced its own Giant EXTRA Plus debit card program running on the Debitman network.
"We've expanded our One Card reward program to provide shoppers with rewards and payment benefits in one card," said Darryl Fitzgerald, President and CEO at Homeland. "Our shoppers can now walk into their Homeland store with just the One Card Plus and complete their shopping quickly without identification or separate payment cards and without having to sign a receipt. Their personal identification number (PIN) provides a secure means to ensure that only they can access their debit accounts.""Debitman makes it more cost-effective for Giant to accept debit, which is now the most popular form of payment in our stores," said Jim Whittaker, Binghamton Giant's director of Management Support Services. "Other local merchants in our area are very interested in accepting our Giant Debitman cards and enjoying the lower processing costs."
"Supermarkets have introduced ACH debit cards in the past, but they could only be used at the issuing locations," said Debitman President R. Scott Hatfield. "Now those supermarkets can leverage 'The Retailer's Network' to convert their store-branded cards from a cost center to a profit center."
"Supermarkets are turning to Debitman to ensure they maximize consumer benefits," said Debitman President R. Scott Hatfield. "The increasing fees retailers are forced to pay to banks and credit card companies are straining the ability of merchants to offer these programs cost-effectively." More than 200,000 locations nationwide accept Debitman network cards, including Wal-Mart, Sam's Clubs, CVS, Dollar General, and Walgreens.
