Three Themes In Consumer Payments For 2006
At Glenbrook, we're tracking three themes in the US payments world that we expect will be increasingly important for 2006.
Three Themes for 2006
- The Broad Bandwagon - an accelerated migration of POS from dial to broadband IP-based networking technology
- Touch Please - accelerating merchant adoption of fingerprint-based biometric payments in price sensitive segments
- More Contactless - increasing deployment of contactless payment cards (and other form factors) by traditional card issuers coupled with merchant POS deployments in time sensitive acceptance environments. Note that for contactless to deliver on its speed and ease of use claims, the POS acceptance environment must also be broadband connected - back to our first theme.
We'll be posting more of our thoughts on these themes - and some others - as we close out 2005 and prepare to get ready for the new year. Your comments on these and other themes are most welcome - click on the comments link at the end of this post to add your comments.
