East & Partners reports on the results of a recent survey of merchants in Australia that concluded that 46.7 per cent of Australia's large corporate merchants, 44.5 per cent of medium commercials and 41 per cent of small to medium enterprises (SME) were planning to add surcharges in the next six to 12 months.
This compared with only 6.9 per cent of corporates, 4.2 per cent of commercial companies and 2.8 per cent of SMEs who already applied surcharges.
East's report finds that of those businesses that do currently surcharge, Corporates on average apply a 1.2 percent surcharge; Commercial enterprises add on 1.4 percent; and SMEs apply a 1.6 percent surcharge.
