Visa Campaigns to Replace Cash
Robert Guy Matthews reports from London for the Wall St. Journal on Visa's new advertising campaign in the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe (sub. required).
Even though more than 60 million Visa cards are in circulation in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, people tend to use them mainly for special-occasion or luxury purchases and rely on cash for daily life. Visa aims to change that with a $25 million ad campaign beginning this week. The group hopes to match its success in the U.S., where debit- and credit-card usage is commonplace on everyday items from gasoline to groceries.
