Glenbrook's Web 2.0 & Financial Services Workshop - March 19

Are you monitoring your brand on Twitter, FriendFeed, Blogs? Do you know why you should?

Web 2.0 and Financial Services Workshop

Here at Payments News we've embraced Twitter, are delighted with FriendFeed, and gorge on the many payments and banking industry blogs now available. These tools are all part of how we track what's going on in the industry and stay abreast of new developments that may impact our clients. We're amazed by the amount of timely information and insight that can be gleaned using these tools and some specialized techniques we've developed.

How about you? Are you monitoring mentions of your brand online? Are you tracking your competitors' online activities? Are any of your disgruntled customers airing their complaints on the Internet? You won't know unless you've engaged in social media. We can help you.

You've got questions and our upcoming Web 2.0 & Financial Services workshop has answers. Join Scott Loftesness and Erin McCune of Glenbrook along with Mitch Muroff of Curaxian as we explore the world of Web 2.0 technologies and their impact on financial services in a special, one-day workshop (morning plus optional afternoon sessions) on March 19th in Santa Clara, California.

You can find the complete schedule of 2009 Glenbrook workshops here - registration for all of these sessions is now open. There are also downloadable agendas available for each of these workshops.

The Fed's 2007 Survey of Consumer Finance

Last week, the Federal Reserve released its latest triennial summary of the Survey of Consumer Finances icon_PDF_small.gif. As Paul Krugman noted in his column in the New York Times this morning, "there has been basically no wealth creation at all since the turn of the millennium: the net worth of the average American household, adjusted for inflation, is lower now than it was in 2001."

Here's how the Fed put it in the introduction to this update of the SCF:

The survey shows that, over the 2004–07 period, the median value of real (inflation-adjusted) family in- come before taxes was little changed; median income had grown slightly in the preceding three-year period.

Noting that the SCF has typically underreported credit card debt, Adam Levitin writes on the Credit Slips blog:

Balances for revolvers grew by somewhere between a quarter and a third in three years. Wow. This bespeaks a rapid leveraging up in credit card debt for a large segement of Americans.

ViVOtech Announces Closing of Additional Series C Financing

ViVOtech has announced that it has closed an $8.6m extension to its Series C round of funding from its existing investors, bringing the total investment in its series C round to more than $40m. Separately, the company also announced that it has been awarded a key NFC-related software patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Patent number 7,469,151 was awarded on December 23rd 2008 and covers" a broad range of methods, systems and products for over the air (OTA) provisioning of credit, debit, prepaid, loyalty and other payment or non-payment cards into mobile phone devices through wireless networks or the internet."
