JP Morgan Chase & Co. has released Chase Mobile, a new iPhone/iPod Touch application available for downloading from the iTunes Apps Store. Cory Bohon posts on The Unofficial Apple Weblog about Walmart's new shopping site that is iPhone-compatible for browsing. He notes, however, that you can't complete a purchase from an iPhone - you must go to the website to do that.

The Pew Internet & American Life Project has published "The Future of the Internet III" , an "eight-part 2008 survey of technology experts and social analysts that inspired thousands of intriguing predictive statements tied to eight compelling question sets about the state of things in 2020."

Among the quantitative results from the expert group:

• Some 77% said the mobile computing device (the smartphone) with more significant computing power will be 2020's primary global Internet-connection platform.
• 64% favored the idea that 2020 user interfaces will offer advanced touch, talk and typing options and some added a fourth "T" - think.
• Nearly four out of five respondents (78%) said the original Internet architecture will not be completely replaced by a next-generation 'net by 2020.

Visa has announced that Visa Mobile is now operational on mobile devices powered by Android, the Open Handset Alliance’s open source platform for mobile devices, including the T-Mobile G1 phone. READ MORE »

The Australian Payments Clearing Association (APCA), the payments industry self- regulatory body in Australia, has released its latest fraud data for cheques, debit cards, credit and charge cards for the 12 month period ending 30 June 2008.

While Australia’s total rate of fraud remains low by global standards, the total rate of fraud (cheque and payment cards) has risen from 5.9 cents (2007) to 7.2 cents for every $1,000 of payments. Cheque fraud declined from 1.4 cents to 0.8 of a cent in every $1,000. Debit card fraud increased slightly from 7.1 cents to 7.4 cents in every $1,000. Credit and charge card fraud increased 30% from 38.6 cents to 50.2 cents in every $1,000 (5.02 basis points). READ MORE »

AirTran Airways has announced that it is making it faster for travelers to buy tickets online by offering PayPal Express Checkout. PayPal Express Checkout uses the information on file in a member's PayPal account to speed through checkout and bypass the need to enter passenger contact information and financial details.
